Taking the Collage Bound Tests
The PLAN
The PLAN is an instrument designed for use by sophomores to help guide them in their postsecondary planning and preparation. The test measures the same academic skills as the ACT Assessment (English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning) but measures them at the tenth-grade level. The PLAN includes an interest inventory, a study skills assessment, and educational/occupational planning section, and a student needs profile. The PLAN also provides the student with an "estimated ACT composite score range." Students can use the "Skills Diagnosis" section to focus on academic weaknesses that need attention prior to taking the ACT Assessment.
The ACT
The ACT Assessment is a standardized college entrance examination that measures knowledge and skills in English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning and the application of these skills to future academic tasks. The ACT consists of four multiple-choie tests.
The PSAT
The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT1, which is one of the tests often required for college admission. Many students take the PSAT more than once because scores tend to increase with repetition and it allows students to become more comfortable with taking standardized tests. During the junior ear, the PSAT is also used as a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program and the National Scholarship Service and Fund for Negro Students. It is also used in designating students for the National Hispanic Scholar Recognition Program. The PSAT includes a Writing Skills Section, which consists entirely of multiple-choice questions. This section does not currently appear on the SAT.
The SAT1
The SAT1 measures developed verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities as they relate to successful performance in college. It is intended to supplement the secondary school record and other information in the student in assessing readiness for college. There is one unscored experimental section on the exam, which is used for equating and/or pretesting purposes.
