What is the Advanced Placement (AP) Program? The Advanced Placement Program allows high school students to try college-level work and build valuable skills and study habits in the process. Subject matter is explored in more depth in AP courses than in other high school classes. A qualifying score on an AP test-which varies from school to school-can earn you college credit or advanced placement. Getting qualifying grades on enough exams can even earn you a full year's credit and sophomore standing at more than 1,400 higher education institutions. There are currently thirty-two AP courses in eighteen different subject areas, including art, biology, and computer science. Speak to your guidance counselor for information about your school's offerings. For more information visit their Web site at http://www.collegeboard.org/ap/
What is the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)? The College-Level Examination Program enables students to earn college credit for what they already know, whether it was learned in school, through independent study, or other experiences outside of the classroom. More than 2,800 colleges and universities now award credit for qualifying scores on one or more of the thirty-four CLEP exams. The exams, 90 minutes in length and primarily multiple-choice, are administered at participating colleges and universities.
