Available to enlistees in all branches of the service, the G.I. bill pays up to $14,998 towards education costs at any accredited two-year or four-year college or vocational school, either during active duty or up to ten years after discharge. There are two options under the bill:
- Active Duty - If you serve on active duty, you will allocate $1,200 of your pay ($100 a month for twelve monthes) to your educational fund. Then, under the G.I. bill, the military contributes up to $14,998.
- Reserve Duty - If you join a Reserve unit you can recieve up to $7,124 to offset your educational costs.
The College Fund
Once enrolled in the G.I. bill program, qualified candidates in the U.S. Army, Navy, or Marine Corps can earn an additional $15,425 in education assistance (a total of $30,000) from the College Fund after discharge.
Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC)
The ROTC offers college scholarships that pay most of the recipient's tutition and other expenses and includes a monthly allowance of $150. The Army, for example, provides an ROTC scholarship of up to $48,000, depending upon the tuition of the school, plus a living allowance of $150 per month for the academic year. After graduation, most trainees enter the service as officers and complete a four-year tour of duty. The application deadline is December 1.
Tuition Assistance
All branches of the military pay up to 75 percent of tuition for full-time, active-duty enlistees who take courses at community colleges or by correspondense during their tours of duty. Details vary by service.
The Community College of the Air Force
Members of the Air Force, Air National Guard, or Air Force Reserves can convert their technical training and military experience into academic credit, earning an associate degree, an occupational instructor's certificate, or a trade school certificate. Participants receive an official transpcript from this fully accredited program.

The Armed Services can help repay government-insured and other approved loans. One third of the loan will be repaid for each year served on active duty.
