Eligibility Requirements for Division II NCAA Member Institutions

Must graduate from high school.
Maintain a minimum 2.00 grade point average in a core of at least 13 academic courses.
Receive minimum score on the SAT or ACT.

Initial Eligibility of Freshman Athletes for Division I and II Member Institutions
Students who plan to participate in NCAA division I or II college sports must complete the following steps.

Obtain the student release form from their high school, complete it, and send it to the NCAA Clearinghouse. This form authorizes high schools to release student transcripts, including test scores,proof of grades, and other academic info. to the Clearinghouse.
The form authorizes the Clearinghouse to release this info , to the colleges that request it.
The student release form and a fee must be received before any documents will be processed.(fee waivers are available for economically disadvantaged students. Check with your counselor for fee waiver info.)
Students must also make sure the Clearinghouse receives ACT and/or SAT score reports.
Students can have score reports sent directly to the Clearinghouse by entering a specific code (9999) printed in the ACT and SAT registration packets.
Once a year, high schools will send an updated Form 48-H, which lists each course offering that meets NCAA core course requirements. The Clearinghouse personnel will validate the form. Thereafter, the Clearinghouse will determine each student's initial eligibility.
Collegiate institutions will request info. from the Clearinghouse on the initial eligibility of prospective student-athletes. The Clearinghouse will make a certification decision and report it directly to the institution.

Three Types of Eligibility are Possible

Certification of eligibility for expense-paid campus visit.
Preliminary certification of eligibility to participate in college sports(appears likely to meet all NCAA requirements but not yet graduated).
Final certification granted when proof of graduation is received.

Eligibility Requirements for Division III NCAA Member Institutions

Division III NCAA member institutions, as well as nonmember institutions, are not under the abovementioned eligibility requirements. In order to be eligible for practice, participation in regular season competition, and need-based or merit-based financial aid, an entering freshman must satisfy the following:the eligibility rules and requirements of the institutor. The eligibility rules of the athletic conference in which the institution holds membership.

National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Regulations

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has different eligibility requirements for student athletes. To be eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics as an incoming freshman, two of the following three requirements must be met:

Have a 2.0 (C) or higher cumulative final grade point average in high school.
Have an 18 composite or higher on the ACT or an 86 total score or higher on the SAT on a single test administered on a national test date: and/or.
Have a top-half final class rank in his/her high school graduating class.

Student-athletes must also have on a file at the college an official ACT or SAT score report from the appropriate national testing center. Results reported on the student's high school transcript are not acceptable.
