Senior Exam Exemption Policy 2006-2007 Students who are exempt from final exams will not be allowed to leave campus. Students who are exempt will need to report to the Event Center where attendance will be taken for each exam period. In order to qualify for exemptions in the fall and spring semesters, the senior must meet the following criteria for each semester. Only seniors are eligible for exam exemptions; all other students must take a final exam. 1. Any UNEXCUSED absence in a class will make a senior ineligible for any exemption, fall or spring, despite the average or being in an AP class. 2. The senior must have an 85 average in the class and no excused absences.
3. The senior must have an 88 average in the class and only 1 excused absence.
4. The senior must have a 92 average in the class and no more than 2 excused absences.
5. The senior must have a 95 average in the class and no more than 3 excused absences.
6. AP students will be held accountable for the above 5 criteria for the fall exam exemption. Students taking an AP test in May will be automatically exempt from the spring exam, except for a student having an unexcused absence in that semester. Remember that attendance is vital to education.
School approved extra curricular and co-curricular absences will not count against students. The college day does not count against students. Medical absences (medical, dental, chiropractic, physical therapist appointments, etc) will be counted as an excused absence for the purpose of determining exam exemption. At the date assigned as the final day to count absences, classroom teachers will submit a list of those students whom they feel qualify for the exemptions. If necessary, the office will verify the attendance record. Students must have written parent permission to be exempt from their exams even though they will not be leaving campus. Points to remember: AP weighted averages are used; no one is allowed to leave an exam early; the teacher is responsible for providing the exemption form for his or her class, and always check attendance records with the registrar’s record which is given to the teachers to validate. Students who leave campus without permission will be assigned an exam grade of 0 and will have an unexcused absence. John Gary, Navarro High School Principal |
